SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF SLOW FEEDING HORSES...

1. REDUCED HAY WASTAGE:
Showmaster Round Bale Slow Feed Haynets reduce hay wastage by assisting to keep the round bale in tact during the feeding process. The size of the holes of the Haynet prevent your horse from pulling out large chunks of hay and spreading it on the ground, only to be trampled on.

2. IMPROVED DIGESTION:
Consuming hay too quickly prevents the particle size of the food from being reduced sufficiently for optimal digestion. The horse's salive is critical to digestion, allowing food to be broken down and helping to prevent colic.

3. REDUCED RISK OF ULCERS:
Horses are naturally grazing animals, intended to graze almost constantly over a 24 hour period. Unlike humans, horses do not have meal times and it goes against their natural function to consume large amounts of food in a short period of time.
Chewing activates saliva, which is required for the digestive process.

4. REDUCED BOREDOM:
As mentioned above, horses are designed to be grazing throughout a 24 hour period. During that time, they usually only sleep for 3 or 4 hours - meaning they are awake for a lot of the 24 hour period!
By allowing constant grazing with a slow feeder, you can help to prevent bad habits developing from boredom such as:
• Windsucking or Cribbing
• Pacing or Weaving
• Pawing at the ground of the stable door/walls
• Chewing on fences, trees etc
