Endurance Bridles

Endurance bridles have to be comfortable for the horse over long distances. Because of this, it’s also very important to choose a bridle which is as lightweight as possible. A good Endurance bridle is flexible enough to not rub the face or ears, even after the horse has started sweating, and will stay comfortably in place without being overly tight or restrictive.

The majority of Endurance riders opt for a bridle which is not leather but synthetic - usually BioThane, PVC or PVC coated teryline webbing. The advantage of synthetic materials over leather, other than being lightweight, is that they can be easily washed or cleaned just by wiping them or putting them in water. This is particularly useful after a long Endurance ride when bridles need to be cleared of sweat before using them again. Because Arabian horses are commonly seen competing in Endurance events, many manufacturers also make Endurance bridles in a size specifically suited to their fine heads and tapered noses, which isn’t often seen in any other type of English-style bridle.
