Hock Boots
Hock boots allow you to provide your horse or pony with excellent leg protection when they need it most; whether that’s when travelling, after an injury, or at night in the stable. Hock boots can serve a wide range of purposes and come in many different styles, so it’s important to choose the one which best serves your needs.
Often, horse owners utilise hock boots after an injury or swelling to the hock area. In these cases, many owners will opt for hock boots which can be cooled or heated as necessary to alleviate pain and swelling, or to help aid with circulation and blood flow. Other popular options are magnetic hock boots or heat reflective hock boots, both of which can help to stimulate blood flow and decrease swelling. These are commonly used after an injury to aid recovery time or sometimes even before work to warm up the area, especially in the case of an arthritic or stiff horse. Some hock boots come with ventilated linings, perforations, or holes to prevent overheating of the hock.
Hock boots can also be used to prevent injuries or stable rubs. Because the hock is a sensitive and thin-skinned area, some horses can develop bed sores when they are kept inside a stable. A soft hock boot can help to prevent this. They are also commonly used when travelling horses, particularly if the horse is known to kick or move around when being travelled. If multiple horses are being travelled together some owners may choose to take precautionary measures by using hock boots in case a horse or pony is kicked or bumped. Our hock boots come in different sizes and styles to suit your pony or horse and their needs, whether it’s for recovery, injury prevention or as a pre-work treatment.
