Hock Boots

Often, horse owners utilise hock boots after an injury or swelling to the hock area. In these cases, many owners will opt for hock boots which can be cooled or heated as necessary to alleviate pain and swelling, or to help aid with circulation and blood flow. Other popular options are magnetic hock boots or heat reflective hock boots, both of which can help to stimulate blood flow and decrease swelling. These are commonly used after an injury to aid recovery time or sometimes even before work to warm up the area, especially in the case of an arthritic or stiff horse. Some hock boots come with ventilated linings, perforations, or holes to prevent overheating of the hock.

Hock boots can also be used to prevent injuries or stable rubs. Because the hock is a sensitive and thin-skinned area, some horses can develop bed sores when they are kept inside a stable.
